The adventures of Oloorin and Co Volume I Mikael Lind 9781492869627 Books
When I first heard about this series, I really looked toward to reading it. It sounded like it would be fun and remind me of all those times I played pen and paper role-playing games like Dungeons and Dragons. I do have to say it definitely reminds of those games, but not in a good way.The writing has two huge problems. First, the author seems to make every grammatical mistake possible. He doesn't use quotation marks or apostrophes. There are numerous instances of using the wrong word especially off and of, to for too, and is for his. Verb tenses are often wrong as well. Dropped and extra words abound. Capitalization is often ignored or used at the wrong time. Sentence fragments are not uncommon. The list goes on and on but you should get the point by now.
The second problem is that it reads like someone's (this is the correct way to use an apostrophe which eludes the author ) game notes. As I was reading , I could practically hear the characters rolling dice. There is a distinct difference in how you should relate information in a game and in a story.
Together, these two elements make the stories almost unreadable. If either of these problems were addressed, it would help tremendously. If both were fixed, then I could see a possible 4 or 5 star rating.
I would gladly let the author be a game master for a role-playing session. He came up with some good game ideas. But he needs to do a lot of work before I could recommend his story writing.

The adventures of Oloorin and Co Volume I Mikael Lind 9781492869627 Books Reviews
When I read the opening statement, I was brought into a world of fantasy that reminded me of medieval times. I’d equate the book to something along the lines of Lord of the Rings that has a Dungeons and Dragons twist. The pros for me were the adventures and the friendships developed along the way. I especially liked the oddity of the group and how they ended up working together. Overall, it was an enjoyable read for a Saturday afternoon.
I recently had "The Adventures of Oloorin and Co" recommended to me and after reading it I have to say that it is the kind of lighthearted, adventurous fun that makes you grin and eagerly keep on reading until the book is over. Mikael Lind crafts five unique tales within the book that each have their own adventurous plot as Oloorin and his adventure loving friends find on their epic journey. From mythical creatures to epic battles, Oloorin and Co never lack for something to kill... or someone to save. What I liked about the adventure collection is that Oloorin and his friends always remain likable, hilariously funny, heroically brave and always on the lookout for their next great adventure. While this isn't a book that will go down in history as a classic it is an endearingly entertaining and engaging fantasy story collection that makes you laugh from beginning to end.
The settings crafted by a meticulous imagination, Michael Lind’s ‘The Adventures of Oloorin and Co’ is probably one of the most exciting fantasy stories I’ve seen put on paper.
The book is about a group of adventurers headed by the barbarian Oloorin whose constant goal is find quests to solve and earn from them. In this regard, they do not run out of “missions” to undertake, each one much more a white-knuckled challenge than the last. It’s worth noting the author’s knack for creating atmosphere he could uncannily “transport” you to Oloorin’s world and feel that deep sense of possibility awaiting the barbarian’s party.
Apparently, the author, Lind, took cues for his novel from playing pen and paper-based RPGs, which somehow explains the tight, often jaws-dropping twists and turns. Which is my way of saying this is an exemplary good tale that will keep you entertained right up to the last page.
Overall, I love this book to shreds—it has the right blend of everything I like about fantasy stories a mounting, riveting sense of adventure, well-developed characters whose interpersonal dynamism jumps out of the page, and an emotional gravitas that makes you believe the events are as real as the person sitting next to you. Quite an achievement, and highly recommended to any fan of the genre. Five stars for this one.
I saw the latest Hobbit book and I wanted something to carry the high. I have read a number of fantasy novels and the cover grabbed me. So I thought I would give it a try. What I found was a satisfying adventure that is authentic and avoids a number of cliches that plague the genre. This was a quick and brisk read that I enjoyed.
This book follows a group of rookie adventurers as they head out into the world to make a name for themselves. It is a fantastic fantasy adventure in the spirit of Dungeons and Dragons and Lord of the Rings.
It is a well written and captivating story. If you are a fan of fantasy and adventures, you are sure to enjoy Oloorin and Co's adventures.
This book is full of adventures and mystical events that will take your breath away. What i love most about it though is the general attitude of Oloorin and his partners to win and all the quests they come upon. From the beginning the author establishes each person's role in the group but as they travel we see how they grow and become which adds more to the plot of the story. It is a lovely book to read and the storyline flows flawlessly. It is also interesting to see a set of beings so different but so in tune with each other and so focused on what they have to do to help each other to get there. It is somewhat of a good example of a life lesson as we are all different but to succeed we have to work together.
It is the adventures and quests in the book that will however take your breath away. I must say i was captivated by the vivid descriptions used in this novel along with the strength of our heroes and they journey onwards. I loved the way the dialogue was written. It is not your average story but as you go along you will find yourself not only reading but it will seem as though you have become a part of the team looking on.
I would recommend this book for all fantasy and adventure lovers. it is a tremendous read that will have you wanting to read more of Oloorin and Co's adventures.
